Once u have passed plab2

Iam really happy for you guys who have passes plab2 and are in hogh spirits right now! Keep on enjoying this phase but also be a little bit prepared beforehand.

What do I mean? Yes, you should know that now starts a bit lengthy and a bit frustrating process till u reach the GMC office and get your registration. Some people who are lucky get this done in no time as they are already well prepared. I was not aware of many things whereby landed up in a delay.

No worries, I will try to cover all possible hurdles that might come in this procedure.

Firstly, enjoy for one day after your result and then the very next day get up and fill the online application for Registration. I know many wlquestions will arise as I had them a lot and no one to help.
( please ask any questions here on this platform to benefit everyone)

Once u have applied u will get a mail from GMC like this,

............Thank you for submitting your application.
What we will do next:
Check the information you have given in your application.
Contact you and let you know what other information you need to send to us. We aim to do this in the next five working days. We will not be able to give you a decision on whether your registration with a licence to practise has been granted at this point.
When you have sent us all the information we need, and we have checked it, we will give you a decision on your application.
If we decide to grant your application we will ask you to come for an identity and evidence check (unless we are satisfied that you have already completed one, for example before taking a PLAB Part 2 exam).
At peak times of the year (May to September) our Registration and Revalidation Directorate is extremely busy and it can take longer to assess applications and contact you.
What you need to do now:
While you are waiting to hear from us, please make sure you have gathered all the evidence asked for in the application information screens.
Keep your registered address and contact details up to date throughout the application process. We will use your registered address to send you important sensitive documents such as our decision. If you do not keep your contact details up to date you might not get this correspondence. You can change your address and contact details through your GMC Online account.
Continue to familiarise yourself with our core guidance Good medical practice.
Do nothing else until you hear from us.
What you should not do:
Please do not attend our offices with your evidence or post it to us unless we ask you to. This will not speed up our decision.
Do not undertake clinical duties not permitted by your current status on the register. You can check your status on our online register.
Need more help?
If you have any questions please contact us. We will do our best to help.
Please do not reply to this email.
General Medical Council

So then u have to wait and wait for 5 working days. Don't call them. Wait and u will definately get a reply as they have promised.

I got a mail on the 5th day.

........Dear Dr Sharma
We need you to post documents to us so we can process your application. We cannot process your application until you do this, so please do it as soon as possible.
What documents do I need to post?
We need a photocopy of every document listed below. To make sure you include everything, please print a copy of this email and tick each item as you enclose it.

[   ] Passport (we need a copy of the photo ID page and the page with your signature on it)
[   ] Primary medical qualification (this is the decorative certificate given to you at the time you initially qualified; it must confirm the exact date that you passed your final examination and met all of the requirements for the award of your degree, so if it does not you will need to send a letter from your university with this information)
[   ] English translation of the document above
[   ] Certificate of good standing from India

You can find out which medical authority to contact in our CGS contact database.

Your CGS is only valid for three months after the date it was issued. If your application is not complete by then, you will have to send another one.
[   ] Evidence of completion of an acceptable pattern of experience (you can find out which patterns of experience are acceptable and what evidence you need on our website.)
You must show you have satisfactorily completed either Foundation Year 1 in the UK or a period of clinical experience elsewhere that provides an acceptable foundation for future practice (sometimes known as an internship) as a fully registered and licensed medical practitioner. What happens next?
We cannot do anything until we have every document listed in this email. Once we receive them, we will assess your application.
If your application is successful, we will ask you to come to an identity check at one of our offices to complete the process. You must bring the original signed and stamped documents listed above when you attend for your identity check. Note we cannot accept photocopies, certified copies or notarised copies. Please do not visit our offices unless we invite you.
Please let us know if you have any questions. We will do our best to help.
Yours sincerely

Important thing to know guys is that you need your PASSPORT, PMQ (mbbs degree along with any translation), internship certificate and the certificate of good standing from your country.

Don't get confused here as u might get everything wrong if u send them something that they have not asked. Moreover, send them means speed post them or email then with scanned copies. What I did? I was more cautious so I did both, although many applicant just email them but my logic was that they mentioned their postal address in the mail, whereby anticipating a speedpost or courier from us.

Any ways, I did that and again waited for them to reply.

To my surprise I got the reply in 3 days and they asked me to come for an id check at their London or Manchester office.

Any questions guys please post here.

All the best

I have written this post because a bit earlier to help all those who are going to apply now as the results just came out.

Cheers!

writing section, desired score 8.5

First task: U will see a bar graph/pie chart with some information about it and then u have to describe it in different ways without repeating. This implies that you should use vivid vocabulary and show that u have wide range. About 150 words, never less than it but could be a few more. Your first para should be the introduction which you can easily write by paraphrasing the task. Then one or two paras describing the information. Second task: 250 words, again not less than it. Write about the topic, cover every area, summarizing details, outlining problems, identifying possible solutions and supporting what you write with reasons, arguments and relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Be careful with the grammar that you use. i would suggest use simple English with no fancy words.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR IELTS

Again, believe me, its no big deal when u come prepared but if you have even slight hitch that u are not than wait, give yourself enough time to gain the confidence and than go for this exam. this is applicable for all the test that u will be giving. So, how to analyse yourself?? simple, throw yourself a mock exam and do self assessment.their could be 3 possibilities 1. U might have aced the mock. Dont wait and book the next date for ielts exam 2. U have passed but lacking score in one or more sections. So, give more time to draw up that particular section. once you are confident enough that u will achieve the desired level than again take a mock test and self analyse. 3. u have got a very low score. Dont worry, but think about improving yout english in a serious notr. take up ielts coaching nearby, start reading english news papers, watching english news and programmes. Back home in India, I have seen doctors struggling with usually reading or writing section. this can be easily amended. How? The answer is to switch on the internet, log on to you tube and watch the videos pertaining to that particular section. Choose only few channels as there are loads of them which will make you more puzzled. Another way is to buy books or download books online and read them and try to reach that level.

IELTS...Academic or UKVI?

Go for UKVi IELTS and score for at least 7.0 in each of the four areas tested (speaking, listening, reading and writing) And an overall score of at least 7.5 (From 18 June 2014) this is What you should do, but you may ask why UKVI Ielts (UK Visa and Immigration) and not the other one? the answer is simple. If you just give simple IElTS and even get the desired score, u still whould have to give UKVI Ielts Academic when u wil apply for Tier 2 visa. When u are giving the ukvi ielts for tier 2 visa, the score they ask is very less , it is IELTS for UKVI - 4.0 overall, and in each of the four skills, as they know that u must have given academic ielts and got desired score and only after that u had given plab exams, got gmc registered and got a job! I was unaware of this and there was no on to explain thist o me and lots of confusion in the public forums. So, I had to give the same ielts exam twice, which was costly, time consuming and a very tiring mistake. (The Tier 2 visa is an entry route for citizens of countries outside of the European Economic Area. In all cases, if you are applying for entry under this visa scheme you MUST be in possession of a job offer and a Certificate of Sponsorship from a UK employer with a valid Tier 2 sponsorship licence.) Another way to avoid giving the ukvi ielts is to book your academic ielts in one of the SELT centres. here is the link for the list of these centres https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/528033/2016-06-07_-_Approved_Secure_English_Language_Tests_and_Test_Centres.pdf Both test are the same with same 4 sections and same level of difficulty.

THE MOTIVATION

Hello fellow doctors! After getting full GMC registration for license to practice, I have decided to write down my experience in this blog which will help you all to get through this. To tell you all what I did and what all I missed to do because of the lack of knowledge. Believe me you guys, this process is very easy but not that easy! One has to be very intelligent for the studies but at the same time very smart to tackle the other problems that might come along. I have passed my MD degree from Russia way back in 2005 and then did my Pg in medicine from India in the year 2011. Since then i have been working in nephrology department and recently appointed as a consultant in a Pvt medical college in delhi ncr. I was doing good with my current job but there was no growth in my career. i was living in a comfort zone with a stable job and all the perks but then I got the info from my sister that there is a dire need for doctors in NHS and that I should be thinking bout that. It was not an easy job for me to sit for many hours to study again when I have already left studying competition books since 2006 and it was hard for me to work full time and again study for PLAB exams. but its good to give yourself a specific target and than follow it till you achieve the results. my advice, book for ielts, prepare and score the desired band, and than start preparing for PLAB1.
